Tom Flass MD and Brittany Coburn NP-C started Functional Medicine Associates in Kalispell, Montana in order to provided personalized care to Flathead County and surrounding communities. This practice will allow them to use their blend of western and Functional medicine to more significantly improve the health of patients across the age spectrum.

Tom Flass MD

Dr. Flass MD specializes in Functional Pediatrics as well as Integrative and Functional Gastroenterology for adults and children. 

He is one of the rare physicians with an extensive background in nutrition while being board certified in Pediatrics as well as Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. Prior to medical school, he received both bachelors and masters degrees in human nutrition and worked for 10 years in several nutrition related fields. His 30 years of nutrition experience coupled with his training at one of the nation’s top pediatric programs have provided him unique insights into the pitfalls and dangers of the modern diet.

Dr. Flass holds a longstanding interest in Integrative and Functional Medicine, and recently completed his coursework in Functional Medicine through IFM (The Institute for Functional Medicine) and is awaiting completion of the certification process.

He has lived and practiced pediatric gastroenterology in Montana for the past 12 years, incorporating nutrition and Functional Medicine into his gastroenterology practice. Tom has been a frequent public speaker at a number of events and conferences, covering a wide array of nutrition and Functional Medicine related topics.

Dr. Flass lives in Kalispell with his wife and 2 daughters, 2 dogs and a bunch of chickens. He enjoys multiple outdoor activities, but prefers fishing to most of them. He can also be found trying to tame an unruly garden and get his orchard to cooperate.

Brittany Coburn NP-C

Brittany Coburn NP-C focuses her practice on Functional Family Medicine, Women’s and Teen health. 

Brittany received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Idaho State University and completed her Master of Nursing alongside her Teaching Certificate in Nursing Education at Montana State University. She has been working as a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner since 2010 in both a Family Practice Clinic as well as developing and coordinating a robust School Based Health program. Brittany has also been an Assistant Professor with Montana State University in the Nursing program since 2010. She completed a Fellowship in Genomics through Logan Health and looks forward to utilizing more of this knowledge to enhance her patients’ care and wellbeing.  

Brittany has been integrating Functional Medicine into the lives of her patients for the previous ten years and is completing coursework through the IFM (Institute of Functional Medicine) and Functional Medicine University. 

She is an avid public speaker and enjoys presenting at events and conferences throughout Montana. She often works with Montana Healthcare Foundation as well as the local Land to Hand Foundation and helped to create the FoodRX program currently offered throughout Flathead Valley. Brittany has served on the Logan Health Whitefish Foundation Board as well as Columbia Falls Child Assistance Team with Columbia Falls School District. 

She is married with two children and loves the outdoors. You can often find them on a lake or a ski hill living life to its fullest.
